Who said there’s no such thing as a free lunch?

Whoever said there’s no such thing as a free lunch obviously doesn’t live in Silicon Valley. I get free lunches all the time. Five free lunches a week to be exact. (Not to mention five free dinners and endless snacks and soda– not unusual for Silicon Valley).

When I’m not eating for free at my office, I’m joining other tech geeks to mooch free meals at other start-ups thanks to Lunch 2.0– a group that convinces companies to sponsor lunches.

This week I enjoyed lunch at Powerset, located at 475 Brannan (literally next door to us, we’re at 425 Brannan). They showed a demo of their natural language search engine. Believers describe this as a replacement to Google– “the future of online search”. I’m not sure if I’m convinced that Google is broken to begin with. But I am looking forward to playing with their beta– Powerlabs (www.powerset.com).
