self portrait becomes travel route for artist

the land of smiles

I’ve posted my pictures from Thailand:
Koh Phangan
Koh Samui
Bangkok
Thailand is the most beautiful, and affordable, country I’ve ever been to. The Thai take such pride in being great hosts, so much so that it is difficult to find them out of ‘hosting’ mode and in leisure situations. The tourism industry is enormous, particularly in [...]

flying on a koh phan gnan beach

I’m starting to get quite the collection of “flying” photos around the world…

I rode an elephant!

I had the opportunity to actually ride one of these gentle and majestic animals.  Notice, this one is a female (no tusks).

welcome to taiwan, bloggers

I have a 7.5 layover in Taiwan, I’ll try not to blog my way into court.

7 day dresses
7 tank tops
2 pairs of flip flops

Erica’s sun glasses

technology and thailand, but not together

hanging out at the commonwealth club for the snap summit.  other than the interesting talk on mass interpersonal persuasion, I’m having a hard time paying attention to people go on and on about the “social graph” and future of the platform.
oh yeah, annie and I decided to take a trip to Thailand in mid-April for [...]

as promised, Carnaval video is live

I’m not too happy with the video quality after being formatted (in iMovie) for internet streaming. This video looks so much better on my computer. But you can still get an idea for the magnitude of happiness and beauty encompassed in Carnaval.

Video ends at 3:52.

back in action!

Okay, so I did a horrible job posting, or not posting, during my vacation. Not only did I lack the motivation to look at a computer, but it was also atrociously expensive. I did, however, take a ton of pictures and videos. And as promised, I’ll be compiling a Carnaval video. [...]

vacation time.

Tomorrow I’m leaving the country for 2.5 weeks to explore the lower half of the world.  We’re going to Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil.  I’m going to use this time to reset and rejuvenate from the often stressful life I have made myself.  I’ll be coming back in February, ready to work hard on Yoga Bear, [...]

back from LA!

I forgot how much fun my college roommate Lauren and I have together. She is the only reason I survived 3.5 years of college in Cleveland. A group of us trekked to LA this weekend to soak up sunshine and celebrate Lauren’s 24th. A view from our hotel in Hollywood:

here we are…

Not sure why I start every video with “here we are…”.  I think I got that from Blair.  Anyhow, here are two quick videos I took this week.

And my pictures are uploaded here!

defining a travel style

Just getting home from a wonderful trip, even considering I spent more time traveling then I did with my family. I spent two days getting as much ‘family time’ (disguised as sight seeing) as possible. Then I spent a day and a half by myself, finishing two books and enjoying the sounds of [...]

hola de isla mujeres

It’s 9:07 PM on the island of Isla Mujeres and I’m in a gelateria / internet cafe.  What a great idea! Italian ice cream and cheap internet in the middle of paradise.
My family just left me after 2 days– they are off to see more of Mexico and then Guatemala.  I’m now on my own [...]

I wish I didn’t like traveling so much, because airlines are one industry I hate to support

Yesterday I waited on hold for 45 minutes, listening to the same Kenny G. song on replay, just to be told that I couldn’t fly standby on an earlier flight to Mexico.  I could buy another ticket for $1,200, but it was against their policy to let me arrive early and fly standby.  While I [...]

one week from today…

I will be on this island off of Mexico with a subset of my family (who I miss so much).

December 14, 2007

I am going to make a carnaval video and it’s going to be so much better than this one.

tickets are booked!

Jeff and I are cruising south america from January 24 - February 8th on this ship. Now I’m on a hunt for the perfect Carnaval costume.

December 13, 2007

I met this man while walking in downtown Athens, Greece. He tends to ‘bark’ at passerbyers. His name is Tom and this is his home. Or what’s left of it. His house was crumbled in an earthquake in 1999, so now he lives amongst random objects that he’s collected over the [...]

planning a 2.5 week trip to South America

flights are booked. Jeff and I are flying into Buenos Aires in 49 days, for 17 days!
We plan on going to Rio for Carnevale and would also like to visit some other must-see cities. Neither of us have been south of Mexico, so I’m soliciting recommendations.
One idea we had was taking this cruise. [...]

rejuvenated

Just got back from a 3.5-day, no-phone, no-internet, romantic get-away slash birthday present from and with Jeff. We went to Miami to visit our friends Roger and David then rented a convertible and headed south for the keys. David was generous enough to let us stay at his gorgeous vacation home on [...]

thinking about the times I went against my parent’s wishes

There have been several times in my life where I have caused my father “to lose a lot of sleep”
1. when I was 14 and wanted a boyfriend (no one won)
2. when I was 17 and wanted to go to college in NYC (he won)
3. when I was 18 and wanted to study something in [...]

candy cocktails and inventive dishes

[[ TAILOR in SOHO ]]
It started off with a Bazooka martini. This brought me back to my childhood (although unlike the classic pink bubble gum, this concoction maintained flavor ’till the end). The drink list primed us for the unique dinner menu which appeared as though the ingredients were all mixed up. [...]

finally, an airline of our time

Usually when I step onto a plane, I’m taken back to the early 1980s.  I’m consistently disappointed with the lack of improvements in the flying experience.  My ratings of all airlines measure from awful (southwest) to unbearable (airfrance) . And to make things worse,  ticket prices are going up while the food is getting worse.
But [...]

surprise trip to Vegas!

For Jeff’s 25th last weekend, 11 of us arranged a surprise trip to Sin City.  He had NO idea where we were going when we packed into a limo after cocktails at Americano.  Even as we approached the airport, he thought we might just be picking someone up.  An hour and a half later, we [...]

Friend breaks up with boyfriend, girls take trip to LA

What do you do when a friend gets out of a bad relationship? Bash the asshole who hurt her, then take her on a get-away where no one is allowed to say the jerk’s name.
I guess we should thank him for giving us a reason to travel to LA for a girl’s weekend of [...]

Seoul Searching: June trip to S. Korea

Korea was wonderful… although seeing Seoul isn’t a fair approximation of life in the entire country (or even just the south). Seoul is a very western city– very modern, clean, christian, wealthy. Since it has been completely rebuilt, it is full of high rises and a large middle class. People take pride [...]
